Wick up as much of the grease (such as butter, salad dressing or cooking oil) with baking soda, even if it as an old stain. Then, if the stain remains AND the fabric is colorfast, spray with Dawn Power Dissolver designed for greasy pots and pans, let sit for a few minutes and launder as usual. Try not to put in dryer until the stain is gone.

To remove oily, greasy food stains acquired in the kitchen (such as when frying or preparing vinaigrette), apply talcum powder directly to the stain, gently pat it in, and leave overnight. In the morning, shake it out. If stain is still quite obvious, repeat. After an application or two, wash the garment as usual. I learned this method from a friend in Spain, where, of course, nearly every food meets olive oil sometime! I love it, and it has worked for me even on garments that have already been through the dryer.
