Because of the smell from a deep fryer can overwhelm a home I do my deep frying outside. I have in the past accidently spilled oil / grease on my outdoor cabinet and concrete patio. I have used automotive engine degreaser let it set for a few the hose off. Scrub if necessary. Repeat as needed.

I once left butter packets in my pocket. My art teacher told me how to get the huge grease spot out of my pants: Cover the stain with flour (or talcum powder if you’re afraid of baking a pastry in your pocket) for a while (I filled my pocket with it. Pressure seems to help). Then scrape out the powder before washing. Don’t machine dry, just in case you have to try again.

There’s a product called De-solv-It that works a treat on grease stains! Simply saturate the stain and wash. Make sure the grease stain is gone prior to drying, as drying will set the stain. However, I’ve used this product on items that were inadvertantly sent through the dryer with grease stain intact (I hadn’t caught it prior to the wash so it hadn’t been treated) — the success rate was high if caught after the first wash/dry cycle.

It also works extremely well for pitch stains. On my honeymoon I sat in a puddle of pitch (it was dark, I didn’t see it) and thought my shorts were ruined. I used this product on them and there is NO trace of pitch… they are good as new.

I sat on some cooking oil on the counter. I Put some Dawn dish detergent on the spot prior to washing it. It has to be Dawn or it won’t work. It works for all kinds of prewash stains.
