Blot first. I then dabbed on cold water and blotted again. Then used the Oxy-Clean solution. Follow directions on box. This Oxy-Clean works like magic. This stuff is awesome. My dog had a bleeding wound and got blood all over my carpet. I sprayed all the blood stains with this and quickly blotted it up with a micro fiber cloth.
