Ok so when you spill a fresh stain onto the carpet get your windex (or any glass cleaner really) it doesn’t matter the color of your carpet..Spray the spot until it foams(which means its saturated) and then let sit for about a minute…Use a towel or a paper towel to dab up the spill(mild scrubbing might be needed).
If you have a bad stain in you carpet pour peroxide mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water on the stained area, place a cloth on top, and a weighted object such as a book etc. Leave overnight and stain is gone in the morning.
Mix dry, two thirds corn meal with one third baking soda. Stir-vacuum rug or carpet. Scatter dry mix and tamp into the carpet with a clean broom (use old panty hose to cover dirty broom straws). Let stand one to four hours or over night. Vacuum clean and be ready to extract bags of dirt. Corn meal gives off moisture and baking soda dries it up, pulling out the dirt. Redo on tough spots. No broken ends, no frizzy stuff, so soap and water. And it works! Mix a little or a lot, it keeps. Its economical.
As a professional carpet cleaner, I find these tips hilarious.
I would never use a glass cleaner on carpet. I have seen many carpets where people have tried this, it can really ruin the color!
Pouring peroxide and water on a stain and expecting it to wick back up into a towel is probably not a very good idea either.
I think the best idea is to first blot up the stain and not using anything but perhaps 10 parts water mixed with 1 part white vinegar, followed by more blotting. Then call a professional.
Need Advice: I have white carpeting that has dark dirt around the wall edges, whereever air has flowed. It can be as small as 1 inch to as wide a path as 1/2 foot. It looks like it might be mold??? It is dry and is definitely not dirt from foot traffic. I have tried many carpet and spot cleaners. The best I can do is lighten the dark areas, but I can’t seem to get the dark dirt out, and after cleaning, it seems to reappear. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean this dark area and keep the dirt from reappearing?
