Every time I empty the lint trap on my dryer, it leaves lint dust all over the top of my dryer and washing machine.
I take a new dryer sheet and wipe it over the top of my dryer and washing machine and the lint dust sticks to it like glue. I then toss the dryer sheet in the dryer with the wet clothes and the left over lint residue goes into the dryer trap….or if you like just toss the dryer sheet.
I always empty the lint filter after I throw the wet clothes from the wash into the drier. When I start another wash load, I grab a rag, sometimes a sock and slightly touch the wash water, wipe down the top of the drier, and toss into the wash.
I use the wad of lint that I just took off the screen and move that around on the top of the dryer. This usually takes off the lint, which can then be tossed in the wastebasket.

After pulling the lint trap out of my dryer, I mist it LIGHTLY with water. It helps the lint from flying everywhere when you ball it up to take off. Just be careful not to overspray or the trap will get wet and then get plugged with lint the next time you use your dryer.
