Tisha asked: How do I clean my multi-colored, striped Coach purse without the colors running or damaging my purse.
Anyone with a Coach purse knows what a valuable accessory it can be. Over time, these purses can build up a layer of dust and dirt that needs to be cleaned away. Using a gentle soap and minimal amount of moisture is key to a successful cleaning. Follow these steps to complete the process quickly, easily and effectively.
You Will Need:
- Ivory bar soap
- Water
- Soft cloths
Steps to Clean the Purse:
- Fill the sink with warm water.
- Moisten a soft cloth with the clean, warm water.
- Rub the cloth on the bar of Ivory soap to apply a small amount of soap to the cloth.
- Clean the surface of the purse by gently rubbing the surface with the moistened soft cloth.
- Work in small sections until the entire purse is cleaned.
- Rinse by wiping with a clean, soft cloth that is moistened with clean water.
- Allow the purse to dry completely.
Additional Tips and Ideas
- Do not submerge the purse in water. It is best to use the least amount of water necessary to avoid color bleeding and fading.

How do I remove the smell of cigarette smoke from a Coach purse?
Melanie says
Donella,
Use the same method that would be used for removing odor from a book. Pour baking soda over the bottom of a plastic container, set a wire cooking rack in the container and place your purse on the rack. Seal the container and allow the baking soda to absorb the odor from your purse for a few days. I would also recommend using something to hold the purse open, such as a chopstick or rolled up piece of printer paper.

I have a light beige, leather Coach bag. I took it to a shoe repair shop and was told the color would be damaged if it was cleaned. I would like to know if there is a Coach shop I could send it to for cleaning? Or could I have some instructions on cleaning it without damage to this particular colored bag?

My Coach purse has oil spots from cooking grease. What can I use?
Melanie says
Sylvia,
Try drawing the oil out of the purse by blotting the stain with a lint-free cloth and covering the stain with a layer of talcum powder overnight.

Depending on your stain, you could also consider using a mild grease-fighting liquid dish soap or a mixture of vinegar and water. Choose a cotton swab with a thick ball of cotton to avoid scratching the purse with the stick, dab the cotton in the grease-fighting mixture and gently rub the oil spots.

I did this today on a fabric Coach bag I have that is multi-colored. I cannot believe how effective it was to be totally honest. I wish I had taken before and after photos, but my bag looks practically brand new. The toughest part for me at first was figuring out how much water to use. I was using minimal, but found that I had to add a little more on the cloth to get the Ivory soap to soak into the fabric some. I picked up a 3-pack of Ivory bar soap at the dollar store for $1 and a white washcloth for $2 (cut it in half to use a section just for rising after) and all in all I’d say this took me 20-30 minutes to do (I basically cleaned the entire outside of my bag which is a medium to large size handbag). Very very pleased with this and will be my go-to maintenance in the future. Thanks so very much for sharing this helpful tip!!
