Table of Contents:
Beets are well-known for their ability to stain everything from countertops to human skin. Thankfully, removing a beet stain from carpet is not as difficult to do as it often is for other items. Use the information in the steps below to remove the stain.
Removing the Stain
You Will Need:
- A paper towel
- White bread
- Soda water (carbonated water)
- A cloth
- Dish liquid
- Non-gel shaving cream
- An old toothbrush
- Ammonia
Steps to Remove the Stain:
- Blot up as much of the stain as possible with a paper towel or slice of white bread.¹
- Sponge the area with soda water, then blot up the liquid. Repeat until the stain is removed.²
- If no soda water is available, pour about a ½ tablespoon of dish liquid into a cup of water and stir the mixture to make suds. Use a cloth to sponge the soapy water onto the stain, then blot up the liquid with a dry cloth. Repeat until the stain is removed.¹
- If the stain is not removed with the above remedies, use white foam shaving cream. Squirt a small amount of the cream onto the stain, then use an old toothbrush to scrub the foam into the carpet.²
- As a last resort, use ammonia. Stir about a tablespoon of ammonia into a ½ cup of water. Sponge the solution onto the stain, then blot up with a dry cloth. Repeat until the stain is removed.¹
- When the stain is gone, sponge the area with plain water to rinse off any remaining residue from the cleaning solution, then pat the area dry.¹
Additional Tips and Advice
- Do not use any heat, such as hot water, when cleaning a beet stain as it can cause the stain to set.³
- Always use caution and ventilate the area when working with ammonia. For more ammonia safety information, see Wikipedia.
