Susan asked: My white cat laid in some red dirt and now has red stains on her white fur. I’ve looked this up and find that lemon juice, salt, vinegar, etc. will work on fabrics. But what about a cat?
A cat’s skin is sensitive and cannot tolerate the cleaning products that would be necessary to remove the red dirt stains immediately. Rest assured that they will be removed on their own in a short amount of time. If desired, you can wash the fur with feline shampoo. Instructions for washing a cat are available in our guide How to Wash a Cat. This will remove any surface dirt as well as some of the staining. The rest is best left alone to wear off over time.
