I have a horrible time with fruit flies-even after taking food, etc. out of my kitchen-saw this on the internet and it works!- put some cider vinegar and a few drops of oil(vegetable, etc) in a bowl, cover with saran wrap, punch a few holes and leave overnight. You won’t believe it the next morning!
Half fill a water bottle with juice or sugar water, leave overnight. pu cap back on and throw away those fruit flies.
This works too:
Pour cider vinegar (about 1/2 to 1 inch deep) into a cup or bowl. Add a couple drops of dishwashing liquid. No need to cover with anything.
Another apple cider vinegar trap… Put apple cider vinegar in a small bottle. Make a small paper funnel and insert it into the top of the bottle. Make sure the paper isn’t touching the vinegar. Let sit overnight where you see the fruit flys. They will enter the bottle through the funnel but can’t figure out how to get out through the small opening that is inside the bottle. Dumb flys!!
One time, while at camp, I accidently left bananas out on the counter. When we got home, my whole kitchen was invaded by fruit flies. We put a piece of banana skin, in a large jar. Then put Suran Wrap over the top, and fastened it with an elastic. We then poked little holes into the Suran Wrap. By morning, we had about a few thousand fruit flies in the jar. To get rid of them, we slower poured water into the jar. Without taking the Suran Wrap off. Within 24 hours, we were rid of the problem.
One time we got fruit flies pretty bad and they were driving me crazy so I tried spraying them with bug spray…nothing. I asked at work and someone told me maple syrup…nothing. Called my dad and he said to take HOT bleach water and wipe down EVERYTHING in the vicinity of the flies (ie: my entire kitchen) ESPECIALLY under the microwave because it is directly beside my sink and water sometimes would get underneath the microwave. It took about an hour and a half, but it totally worked! For a large kitchen sink, I used about 1/2 cup of bleach and filled it 3/4 of the way with water. Cheap and easy and effective! Have not had a single fruit fly since and that was over a year ago!
