How to Wash Your Face

Washing your face is best done over a sink with warm water. Wash your hands first, and then wet your face with clear water. Apply a small amount of cleanser to your hands and massage into your face. Rinse with cooler water to close your pores.

Ladies, your eyes and your face are not the same thing! Use an eye make up remover first, rinse your eyes with clear water to remove the residue. Wash your face as normal avoiding the eye area. This will keep the sensitive eye area from drying out with the use of a harsher cleanser meant for the face.

Don’t forget your neck! Yes, you wash your neck in the shower but it is exposed to just as much as your face and should be treated the same. Use the same cleanser and follow up with the same ****** products.

If you are wearing make up, wash twice. The first washing will remove the make up the second washing will cleanse the skin.

Don’t wash more than twice a day. Even if your skin is oily, washing too much will dry it out.

Use a clean towel to dry your face. Most of us just grab whatever is handy but you really should use a clean towel each time. Blot dry, don’t rub.

Don’t use a harsh wash cloth to wash your face. If you need to exfoliate choose a product for that. Harsh cloths will just irritate your skin.

Choose your cleanser with care. If you can have a professional tell you your skin type. If you can’t do that choose products that are “hypoallergenic,” “non-drying” or “gentle.”

If you finish washing and your face feels oily or greasy choose another product. Your freshly washed face should feel smooth and soft.

I keep some pre-packaged cleansing clothes in my gym bag for quick washes at the gym. Baby wipes work well too

Always put your hair back. You are washing your face not your hair and your hair will transfer oils to your face possibly promoting more problems.

Use a circular motion to wash but don’t pull or tug on the skin as that will promote wrinkles.

While rinsing with cool water may feel good, pores do not open and close. Rinsing = necessary. Using cool water to “close pores”… not so much.

For oily skin, the best way to wash your face is (1) Using the appropriate cleanser, (2) Using warm water and finally rinsing with cool water to close pores.
