Donna asked: I washed and dried a silk shirt, and now it doesn’t feel the same. Is there any way to get the texture back? What can I do to get the original, smooth texture of the silk shirt back? The garment tag said it could be washed and dried on a low setting. It also said it was best to have it dry cleaned. Now it feels stiff.
Silk is a delicate fabric. There are a wide variety of silks, and each will react differently to washings. If you silk has turned stiff, you must first ensure that you are washing it correctly. Then, simply add a few drops of hair conditioner to the rinse water. It will help keep the natural fibers of the silk flexible and shiny.
