If you have a dvd that constantly freezes, check the outer core, or edge. If it has small scratches, this can be repaired with a machine called, Skip Doctor, which you can purchase at any electronics store. The Skip Doctor removes the outer core of the dvd where the scratch was. Simply spray the special cleaner that comes with your Skip Doctor. Next, place the scratched disk on the turn table of the machine, then turn it on. You’ll hear a grinding sound, similar to a dentist’s drill, indicating the machine is doing its job. When the motor stops, remove the disk. Don’t play the disk right away, as the solution needs to dry out. The solution forms a sort of bandaid for your disk. Sound quality should not be effected.

I was told by a professional electronics repair guy that you should never clean your DVD drive with store-bought DVD cleaners. It’ll scratch the laser. Instead, he said to use Windex on a long Q-Tip and just wash the laser. Be sure to unplug the unit first, of course!

Use a compressed air to blow out any dust in the unit.

I think he’s right. I had two DVDs in a row stop working correctly right after I used a store-bought DVD disk cleaner.
