How to Remove Water from a Pentax Lens

Maureen asked: I have three camera lenses that were submerged in water during a recent flood in Georgia. My Pentax lens has water in between the two lenses that I cannot get dry. Any suggestions by anyone would be appreciated. Also, a cheap place to get it fixed.

Sometimes the water will evaporate on its own after sitting in a dry, warm location for a couple of days. However, if it doesn’t, further action will need to be taken to save the lens. Removing the liquid will require completely disassembling the lens, cleaning it, lubricating it and reassembling. If you are unsure about doing this yourself, contact a Pentax dealer or other camera specialist to have it done for you. Water left inside of the lens can lead to corrosion and mold, both of which will decrease the life of the lens. If it is for a business, perhaps insurance will help cover the costs? If the lens is of high value, it will be worth the cleaning costs to keep it in good, functioning condition.
