Roxanne asked: How do I clean timber veneer wall panels? I have timber veneer panels in a room where people smoke, and I don’t know the best way to clean the nicotine from the panels.

Wall panels are generally coated with a protective coating that also adds to the décor. This finish allows them to be cleaned with simple, everyday cleaning products. Here are some suggestions for removing the nicotine coating that has built up.

You Will Need:

  • Mild soap or detergent
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Sponge
  • Soft cloths
  • Towels

Steps to Clean the Panels:

  1. Begin by mixing the soap and warm water in a bucket.
  2. Use a sponge or soft cloth to gently wipe down the walls with the soapy water.
  3. Rinse by wiping down with plain water, using a clean cloth.
  4. Dry with a soft towel.

Additional Tips and Ideas

  • Swiffer wet mops make great wall cleaners as well. Simply attach the pad and use it to wipe down the wall paneling. It is quite effective in removing smoke stains as well.

I have found that diluted vinegar not only helps remove the nicotine stains, but also deodorizes at the same time.
