How to Fix Oven Cleaner Damage to a Glass Stovetop

glass-stove-top

Kathy asked: How can I remove cleaner spots from my glass stovetop? I sprayed my glass stovetop with easy off oven cleaner. I got distracted and didn’t wipe it off. Now, I have many many spots/stains on my stovetop. How can I remove the spots? They look like water stains. I have tried baking soda, vinegar, bleach, Weisman cleaner and orange cleaner. Thanks.

As stated on the packaging and website, Easy Off Oven Cleaner is not safe to use on glass cooktops. Unlike a residue that can be cleaned away, the harsh chemicals used to clean an  oven can eat through the surface of the glass and leave what looks like watermarks. Unfortunately, if the glass surface has been damaged, it is not reversible.

Easy Off makes a products specifically for glass cooktops. This product is safe to use on ceramic and glass cooktops to remove stains and cooked on food.

I left a stainless steel/copper kettle on the glass cooking surface too long, and it left the a strong residue on the glass. I tried the normal cleaner and a scraper, but it didn’t work. What do you use to remove this without hurting the glass top?
