How to Remove Burn Marks from Granite Flooring

Table of Contents:

  3. Additional Tips and Advice

Niranjan asked: How do I remove burnt marks on granite flooring? These burnt marks are caused by keeping hot objects on the granite flooring.

Granite flooring is durable and resistant to stains, so if you find a mark on your tile you may not have much luck removing it yourself. The best option is to call in a pro, but if you’d like to try to fix it yourself you can give this accepted method a try.

You Will Need:

  • Medium grit sandpaper
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Granite sealer or polish

Steps to Remove the Marks:

  1. Use a medium grit sandpaper over the burn mark until you’ve removed most of the scar. Be very careful not to gouge the granite, especially if you use a power sander. Such marks can’t be repaired.
  2. Once most of the mark is gone, switch to a fine grit sandpaper to finish the job.
  3. After the entire burn mark is gone, apply the sealer, polish, or other finish to match the rest of the floor. Follow all applicable manufacturer and product label directions.

Additional Tips and Advice

  • If the burn is a bad one or caused any visible damage, you will probably have to call a professional.

Believe it or not, but a toaster oven left “burn marks” in/on our granite countertop. How can I remove them or get them out of the sealant?
