How to Remove Light Marks from a Stainless Steel Refrigerator Surface

Che asked: How do I clean a stainless steel fridge surface? I clean a stainless steel surface on the fridge door using Mother’s Aluminum and Mag Cleaner. This resulted in some highlighted surfaces on the fridge door. How can I remove the highlighted areas? The fridge is a Jen-air fridge, which is less than two years old, so the surface is otherwise in good condition. Thank you for your help.

Light marks can sometimes be removed from stainless steel by polishing, but often they cannot be removed at all. To try to improve the look of your stainless steel appliance, try this method.  It’s most effective for instances where a previous cleaner or chemical reacted with something on the surface of the appliance to leave the marks.

You Will Need:

  • Aero Stainless Steel Polish and Cleaner
  • Soft cotton cloth

Steps to Remove the Stain:

  1. Spray a light mist of Stainless Steel Polish and Cleaner over the surface.
  2. Rub it immediately with a soft, cotton cloth, moving in one direction only. Wipe with the grain of the surface and  in a straight line.
  3. Repeat if necessary.

Additional Tips and Advice

  • If the marks remain, it’s not likely you can remove them. Stainless steel with lightening or “bleaching” must be professionally refinished or, when possible, the panel may be replaced.
