How to Remove Wax from Porcelain Tile

  1. Additional Tips and Advice

Linda asked:  In the process of installing a new toilet in our bathroom, the wax ring was accidentally dropped on our dark brown porcelain tile, leaving dark smudges. I tried heating the spots with a hair dryer and buffing with a soft towel, but the smudges still remain on the tile. Do you have any recommendations on how to get rid of these waxy smudges?

When wax adheres to any surface, it can easily be removed with some heat and a cloth or brown paper bag to absorb it once it melts. Any remaining stains can be cleaned away with everyday household cleaners and soft cloths. For instructions on melting the wax onto paper or a soft cloth, see our guide How to Remove Candle Wax Stains

Additional Tips and Advice

  • Use caution not to allow the iron to touch the porcelain directly. This will result in a scorch mark that is more difficult to remove.
  • Any all-purpose cleaner can be used to clean the surface with a soft cloth. It will take some elbow grease, but any wax on the surface will come off with some work.

Sorry, but none of your suggestions answer my question:
How do I get hair removal wax from my tile kitchen counter?

I don’t need anything besides what I am asking.

I poured coconut oil all over…rubbed it in a bit, then used an object with a sharp edge or surface to scrape it off…Some soap and water to wipe away the excess…

Thank you for the great tip! I managed to remove the wax with my blow dryer! It worked.
