How to Clean a Dreamcatcher

Table of Contents:
  1. The Washing Method
  2. The Dry Method

Dreamcatchers purple-dreamcatcherare often hung from the ceiling in a bedroom, and you would think that this vantage point would keep them clean. However, they do become dusty, and they also absorb any odors or residue from the air. So it is a good idea to clean your dreamcatcher every few months to keep it clean and ready to do its job protecting your dreams.

The Washing Method

You Will Need:

  • Mild dish liquid
  • Water
  • A bowl

Steps to Clean the Dreamcatcher:

  1. Put some dish liquid in a bowl and fill the bowl with water.
  2. Swish your hand in the bowl to create suds.
  3. Wash one small area of the dreamcatcher in the soapy water first as a test.
  4. If no dyes come off in the water and the feathers or other parts do not appear to be damaged, wash the entire dreamcatcher. This can be done by dipping each section in the soapy water and rubbing it between your fingers, then rinsing it off.
  5. If any dyes do come off in the water or the feathers appear damaged by the water, it will need to be cleaned in a different way. Use the dry method below.

The Dry Method

You Will Need:

  • A bag
  • Salt or baking soda
  • A sock
  • A vacuum

Steps to Clean the Dreamcatcher:

  1. Get a bag that is large enough to hold the dreamcatcher.
  2. Pour a generous amount of either salt or baking soda in the bag. About a cup should suffice.
  3. Put the dreamcatcher in the bag and seal it.
  4. Shake the bag to coat all parts of the dreamcatcher with the powder thoroughly.
  5. Let it sit in the powder for a few hours or overnight.
  6. Remove the dreamcatcher from the bag and shake off the powder outside.
  7. If needed, wrap a sock or other breathable fabric over a vacuum hose and vacuum off the powder.
  8. Repeat the process as many times as needed for all of the dirt and odor to be absorbed by the powder and removed.

I was told not to take my oldest dreamcatcher with me when I moved because it caught all bad dreams in the other house (where someone died) and my fiancé had very bad dreams.
But I figure if I cleanse it correctly it could still work, and if not I can cleanse it and remove all the negative energy from it…right? I just want to do it the right way.
