How to Clean the Strings on Window Blinds

Table of Contents:
  1. You Will Need
  2. Steps to Clean the Strings
  3. Additional Tips and Advice

Debbie asked: How do I clean the strings on my kitchen horizontal blinds? The strings are dirty.

With blinds-stringso much use, it’s no surprise that the strings on your mini blinds may show more dirt than the blinds themselves. This solution for restoring the white strings on blinds to their original bright coloring is surprisingly simple!

You Will Need:

  • Clean rag
  • White liquid shoe polish

Steps to Clean the Strings:

  1. Pour a small amount of white shoe polish on the rag.
  2. Wipe the strings with the polish-coated rag until clean.
  3. Allow the strings to dry.

Additional Tips and Advice

  • Another alternative is to wipe the strings with white foam shaving cream. This works for any color of string, but is especially useful for ones that do not have compatible shoe polish colors. To use this method, put a small amount of the cream on a cloth, then rub it onto the string. It is not necessary to rinse off the shaving cream.
